Senior Machinist – MRO

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Machinist is responsible for performing advanced machining, repair, and refurbishment of aerospace components within our MRO operation. This role requires a high level of technical skill, precision, and compliance with aerospace quality standards. The Senior Machinist serves as a subject matter expert, supporting complex repairs, mentoring other MRO team members, and ensuring all work meets customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Machining & Repair Operations

  • Perform complex machining repairs on aerospace components in accordance with approved repair procedures, work instructions, and customer specifications.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot manual and CNC machines (e.g., mills, lathes, grinders) to restore components to serviceable condition.
  • Machine close-tolerance features while maintaining dimensional integrity, surface finish, and material properties.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, repair manuals, and technical instructions.
  • Support development of repair methods and machining approaches for non-routine or complex MRO work.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all machining and repair activities comply with AS9100, FAA/EASA requirements (as applicable), and internal quality procedures.
  • Complete required documentation accurately, including travelers, repair records, and inspection sign-offs.
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
  • Work closely with Quality and Engineering to resolve nonconformances and repair challenges.

Inspection & Process Control

  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, CMM as applicable).
  • Verify part conformity to drawings and repair specifications prior to inspection release.
  • Maintain equipment, tooling, and fixtures in proper working condition.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor the MRO team members.
  • Assist with training, qualification, and skill development of MRO personnel.
  • Provide input on process improvements, tooling needs, and repair development.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • HS Diploma or equivalent, technical certification or trade school training a plus.
  • 7+ years’ of machining experience in an aerospace manufacturing or MRO environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in precision machining for aerospace applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Strong understanding of aerospace quality and repair requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and workmanship.
  • FAA Repairman Certification.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, delivery, and customer service.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Primary duties will be on the shop floor, working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time while performing manual work.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity in both hands.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted, stand, squat, bend, twist, and reach often.
  • Exposure to various temperatures, noise and vibration from power equipment, dust, and fumes.
